What are Cairns?

Cairns, or stacked stone piles, were used to serve as directional markers, navigation, and safety. They are often seen on trails as markers to guide travelers along the correct path. Culturally and spiritually, they represent balance, peace, meditation, and connection to both nature and previous travelers.  In counseling, Cairns symbolize "holding" space. Holding space is the practice of being fully present, compassionate, and nonjudgemental, creating a safe environment for another person to feel heard and supported without trying to fix, judge, or control them. I am hoping you give me the opportunity to hold space for you.
